Policies for Baptism @ St. Mary of the Visitation
1) There may be 1 or 2 Godparents but there can be only 1 male or 1 female Godparent.
2) Parents/Grandparents cannot be Godparents of their children/grandchildren.
3) Children must be under the age of 7. Any child over the age of 7 is required to go through the 2 year RCIC program thru ReligiousEducation to be baptized.To be a Godparent you must:
1. Be 18 years of age or older
2. Be baptized in the Catholic Church
3. Be a Catholic who is up to date on their sacraments (1st
communion, Confirmation) living a life of faith as a practicing
Catholic (ex. must attend Mass on a regular basis)
4. If Married, he/she must be married in the Catholic Church and living a life of faith within the church
5. If single, he/she cannot be living with someone as a couple because then he/she could not actively lead a life of faith within the church.
Parent and Godparent Requirements:
1. Parents & Godparents must attend a Baptismal Class before the ceremony takes place.
2. Parents must sign & complete all questions on form, bring in the child’s state issued birth certificate. If they attend another church they need to have a letter of permission signed by their priest, to baptize their child at this parish and/or if they attend a class at another parish they must bring in a “Proof of Baptismal Classes” to the office at least 1 week before baptism date.
3. Godparents must sign & complete all questions on form, If Godparents attend another church and/or received their
sacraments at another church, they need to bring in proof of
sacraments including proof of catholic marriage and a letter of permission signed by their priest to be Godparents in our church. If they attend a class at another parish they must bring in a “Proof of Baptismal Classes” classes are usually valid for 2 years. Classes here are held on the 1st Tues (unless it’s a holiday or Holy day of Obligation) of each month Jan.-Nov. NO classes or baptisms are
held in Dec. Dates for baptism ceremonies are pre-set for the year and this info will be given at the class for the current month or you may call the office for date information.
4. There are no fees for classes or baptisms, a donation to the church and/or to the deacon is appreciated but not required. A candle and garment bib will be blessed and given to each child to be used during the ceremony and be kept as a remembrance of their baptism.
5. All requirements must be met and all forms, records and letters must be completed and turned in to the office at least 1 week prior to baptism.

Since the time of early Christianity, Baptism has been the rite of initiation into the Christian community of the Church. In Baptism, the “one Spirit” makes us members of the Body of Christ and of “one another” (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], no. 1267). Pope John Paul II describes the result of Baptism as a “mystical unity” between Christ and his disciples, and the disciples with one another,
like “branches of a single vine.” This reflects the mystical communion of the Holy Trinity (Christifideles Laici [The Vocation and the Mission of the Lay Faithful in the Church and in the World], no. 12).

Requisitos Para Baptismo en Santa Maria de la Visitacion
1) Puede haber 1 o 2 padrinos, pero solo puede haber 1 padrino masculino o 1 femenino.
2) Los padres/abuelos no pueden ser padrinos de sus hijos/
nietos.
3) Los niños deben ser menores de 7 años. Cualquier niño mayor de 7 años debe pasar por el programa de 2 años de RCIC a través de la dotrina para ser bautizado.
Para ser Padrino deben:
1. Tener 18 años de edad o más
2. Ser bautizado en la Iglesia Católica
3. Ser un católico que esté actualizado en sus sacramentos
(Primera Comunión, Confirmación) viviendo una vida de fe como un católico practicante (por ejemplo, debe asistir a misa regularmente)
4. Si está casado, él/ella debe estar casado en la Iglesia Católica y vivir una vida de fe dentro de la iglesia
5. Si es soltero, él/ella no puede estar viviendo con alguien en pareja porque entonces él/ella no podría llevar una vida de fe activa dentro de la iglesia. Requisitos de Padres y Padrinos:
1. Los padres y padrinos deben asistir a una platica bautismal antes de que la ceremonia tenga lugar.
2. Los padres deben firmar y completar todas las preguntas en el formulario, traer el certificado de nacimiento emitido por el estado del niño. Si asisten a otra iglesia necesitan tener una carta de permiso firmada por su sacerdote, para bautizar a su hijo en esta parroquia y/o si asisten a una platica en otra parroquia, deben traer una "Prueba de platica bautismales" a la oficina al menos 1 semana antes de la fecha del bautismo.
3. Los padrinos deben firmar y completar todas las preguntas en el formulario. Si los padrinos acuden a otra iglesia y/o reciberon sus sacramentos en otra iglesia, deben presentar una prueba de los sacramentos que incluya prueba de matrimonio católico y una carta de permiso firmada por su sacerdote para ser padrinos en nuestra iglesia. Si asisten a una platica en otra parroquia, deben
traer una "Prueba de platica bautismales" que generalmente es válida por 2 años. Las platicas aquí se llevan a cabo el primer Martes (a menos que sea un día festivo o un día sagrado de obligación) de cada mes desde Enero a Noviembre. NO hay platicas o bautizos en Diciembre. Las fechas para las ceremonias de bautismo están pre-establecidas para el año y esta información se dará en la platica del mes actual o puede llamar a la oficina para obtener información sobre la fechas.
4. No hay cobro para las platicas o bautizos, se agradece una donación a la iglesia y/o al diácono, pero no es obligatorio. Se bendecirá una vela y un babero de prendas de vestir para cada niño que se utilizará durante la ceremonia y se guardarán como recuerdo de su bautismo.
5. Todos los requisitos se deben cumplir y todos los formularios, registros y cartas se deben completar y entregar a la oficina por lo menos 1 semana antes de la fecha del bautismo.
